6月3日上午9点30分，武汉大学八一路校区的行政楼内发生一起劫持事件。一男子持枪劫持2名武汉大学员工，被劫持者中一名男性和一名女性。武汉警方迅速赶到现场处置，14时50分左右劫持者被击毙，人质安全救出。一名警察受伤，目前正在救治中。
劫持人系武汉大学物理学院某教授之子，曾在武汉大学后勤集团工作，因故被学校开除，今日上午9时许手持一把64式手枪劫持武汉大学党办副主任。持枪劫持党委办公室正在上班的一名女同志，拉动枪栓，谩骂工作人员。事件发生后，武汉防暴大队和特警迅速赶到现场，双方在对峙6小时后，劫持者身中4枪身亡，人质安全获救。一名警察受伤，已被送往医院。
歹徒周某，四十岁，系原武大后勤集团员工，二00八年七月因非法拘禁罪被判刑两年、缓刑三年。
